A privately owned international company who started out in 1992 buying, reconditioning and reselling pre-owned stair lifts. Acorn have now progressed into designing and manufacturing an Acorn own stair lift which soon became one of the market leaders.
Their head office is in Yorkshire, offering UK wide coverage, however Acorn now have offices and distribution centers in the US, Canada, Australia and Germany. Acorn are proud to sell stairlifts to over 70 different contries and employ over 800 staff worldwide.
Acorns experience in dealing with other manufacturers used and pre-owned stair lifts helped them identify the advantages and disadvantages of each products design. This information was used when developing the new Acorn Superglide Stairlift making it an instant success. Their Superglide design soon became the world’s market leader and still holds a strong today.
Acorn Stair Lifts also were the first manufacturers to design direct current (DC) battery allowing the stair lift to be used if there is a mains power cut, which has been adopted by many other companies.
The Superglide Stair Lift is DC powered and opperates on a rack and pinion drive ensuring smooth and quiet ride and soft start and stop feature ensures you don’t jolt when your reach the top or bottom of the stairs. This model also has a swivel seat with three different positions for your comfort. To increase safety Acorn also incorporates an overspeed governor and a self-diagnostic system so the stair lift can alert you if there are any faults.
