Sioux City resident accesses his home with stairlift

24/01/2012
The stairlift that Paul Leander, Sioux City resident, got installed has been a lifesaver for him. He said: “Now it has been nearly two months and though it goes just upstairs, I really do not know how I could have managed being home without it. As my house is not at the level of the street, the stairlift is the only thing that gives me proper mobility.” “At the hospital, the doctors were not ready to discharge me unless my home was adapted to access the upstairs and downstairs with ease.” He lost his his leg due to diabetes and now requires a wheelchair to get from one place to another. Leander said: “My house is not on just one level and as m house is not disability accessible, with the basement on street level and the first floor going up to the second floor, stairlift was a must.” Leander said: “This new stairlift that I got installed did cost me but it is a real lifesaver. If you have a disability or are homebound, a stairlift is essential. I told them that I could crawl up the stairs but they refused that a fall could be very debilitating. Then I called Matt Topf and he had this stairlift and he got it installed. I did not argue on the price though it was just a little over the budget.” Stairlifts are chairs mounted on rails along the stairs and are perfect for going up and down the staircases. Though he is not sure when he can return to work, Paul Leander is enthusiastic about life and said that the stairlift gives him access to the computer room so he can get some work done. He said: “I want to walk again and get back to work but for now my big goal is to get set for the drag races in Topeka, Kansas. I should be walking by June.”
