Hammersmith's new Academy get stairlifts from Stannah

24/01/2012
The state-of-the-art West London secondary school is getting new stairlifts for easier mobility of the disabled and those with limited mobility. Most of them are students and traversing the building’s four floors gets difficult for the staff and students with handicaps. For the pioneer school in West London, the campus is always bustling with a lot of activity. To cope with that - Hammersmith Academy has got two Stannah Xtralift that are similar to stairlifts installed to provide optimum connectivity between different floors for the staff of the school, the users with disability and limited movements which includes students. The school has numerous visitors, 780 students and staff that require the help of a passenger stairlift. The smooth and swift commute between different departments in the school required enhancements of a stairlift. The school is a co-educational school catering to people of different abilities. The passenger lifts aspects include plasticized, light-grey walls, stainless-steel consoles with 'Domino' suspended, down lighter on the ceilings, car doors and, skirting. With large graphics on the external lift door, the alphabets and numerals, G-1-2-3 has been printed. This ensures that the lifts can be located with ease at each of the building floors. All of the lifts have been enabled with the feature of access only by swipe-card ensures that they can only be accessed by the users with a swipe card. The stairlift or passenger lifts were designed by a London architect Nathan Beevers, whose specialty is layout and designing academies. According to Mr. Beevers, he said: “The demands of the staff and students are both physical and emotional and in all the projects that we have done, we are concerned about the sensitivity of this project. We are happy to say that Stannah stairlifts has supported us at every step and delivered the product that was needed. We have worked in the past with the stairlift company and were confident about the results.”
