14/02/2012
The football fan, Scott Preece’s game prediction has helped Karl Darby Fund get a donation of £500 towards installation of a stairlift at the home of the Sheffield United fan, suffering with myoclonic epilepsy. Scott won £5,000 through a football competition, all of the members that took part in the competition had paid £10 as a stake to predict the weekly win and he had won. According to the clause, the winner is asked to nominate a cause or a local charity and JustOnestanding gives a donation.
Mr. Preece selected Karl Darby Fund. The non-profit has been raising money to get a stairlift installed at the house of Karl’s parents so that he can move back with them.
Resident of Gleadless Valley, Sheffield, Scott said: “Winning the JustOneStanding jackpot of £5,000 has been wonderful and I am planning a vacation already!”
He elaborated: “I had read about the effort that Karl’s friends and family are doing to collect the money and get the stairlift and get him home. He is a Sheffield United fan too and I really wanted to get the £500 donation by JustOneStanding to go to his fund. I hope it has helped.”
30% of all stakes by members of JustOneStanding is donated to good causes or grass root sports and it is just a way of contributing to the community. Managing Director of Sheffield United, Dave McCarthy said: “It has been inspiring to know about Karl and the appeal by the charity to raise money for installing a stairlift and transform his life. Players and fans have been inspired and we have been able to collect about £15,000 which will ensure that the stairlift can be installed. The project shall be completed with donations like from JustOneStanding and Scott, who have contributed to it and mobilized others to do so.”
